The quality of higher education is of fundamental importance and governance and regulation are key components in assuring quality. How higher education systems and institutions are governed and regulated in different countries is of interest to policy makers and researchers alike.
My knowledge and understanding of governance has been developed through research and practice. I have been a governor in two universities in the UK and have worked as acting head of governance with oversight of Board committees and sound governance arrangements. I have undertaken governance effectiveness reviews for different institutions and have written guidance for governors on academic quality and standards (see resources). I currently serve as a Trustee of the British Accreditation Council.
I work with colleagues advising on governance so as to enhance its effectiveness in institutions and higher education systems.
